Training
THE BASIS OF NAM WAH PAI
Nam Wah Pai is a martial art which encompasses both the external and internal aspects of health, fitness and self-defence. It instils discipline, self confidence and modesty. The knowledge and techniques taught have been formulated through many years of learning and practical application. The instructor’s aim is to pass on this knowledge to the highest standard as set down by the New Zealand Chief Instructor Jarrod Haar and by NWP Grand Master Sim Po Huat in Singapore. All beginners have the ability to progress through the succession of grades to reach the highest levels in NWP through training and dedication. What a student puts into Nam Wah Pai is what they will get out of it.
Nam Wah Pai is a combination of 5 groups or styles of Chinese martial arts as follows:
External techniques
Northern Shaolin
Wi Jiao
Internal techniques
Tai Chi Chuan
Pa Kua
Hsing I
World NWP emphasises fitness, health and self-defence. Each is equally important and has an External and Internal aspect. The "External" side involves the physical actions of flexibility, stances, katas, weapons, and correct blocking, punching and kicking techniques. The "Internal' side involves learning "Internal Strength" and Meditation. Through Internal strength a student learns special methods of breathing aided by the mind. This energy can be transferred to any part of the body making that part extremely powerful or "iron" hard. Not only is this process beneficial for the internal organs but internal strength will give your punches and kicks more power.
HISTORY OF NAM WAH PAI KUNG FU
World Nam Wah Pai was founded in Singapore in 1964. The Current Chief Instructor, Grandmaster Sim Po Huat has been leading Nam Wah Pai for more than 30 years. The external form of martial arts in Nam Wah Pai is based on Shaolin Arts while the internal form of Yang style Tai Chi (Taiji) is from the great Tai Chi (Taiji) master, Yang Lu Chan, creator of Yang style Tai Chi (Taiji).
